Teonanacatl Magic Mushrooms

The Teonanacatl magic mushroom (Psilocybe Cubensis, Teonanacatl), native to southern Mexico, is steeped in history. Known as “Flesh of the Gods” in its native language, it played a pivotal role in Aztec ceremonies and rituals. Its significance was further highlighted in the early 1600s when Spanish missionaries reported its use to the King of Spain. This ancient mushroom regained attention in the 1930s, thanks to Harvard botanist Richard Evan Schultes, who revealed its shamanistic use in Oaxaca, Mexico, sparking both controversy and fascination.
Teonanacatl, often called the “little brown mushroom,” is visually unassuming with thin to medium stems and light to dark brown caps. It reveals its readiness for harvest when its caps open, and a veil breaks, marking the mushroom’s final growth phase.
